Words have always fascinated me. I've always felt sorry for those who don't understand the blissful escape of a good book. Even now my eight-year-old son knows that when I'm reading is a wonderful time to ask for something--because I have one foot in my home world and one foot in my book world.
I work as a children's author and have written biographies for school libraries. I also have written many magazine articles for children--both nonfiction and fiction. My subjects have included everything from capybaras to sled dogs to bug eating around the world. Sharing stories with children has helped me feel like I'm giving something back to the world of reading! Currently I live in Pennsylvania with my husband, son, and exuberant, but loving, yellow lab.
Among my favorite genres are historical and modern fiction, nonfiction, and the classics. My family often finds me curled up under a warm blanket, a cup of tea in one hand, and a book in the other. My top three all-time favorites are Tess of the D'Urbervilles (my dog's namesake), The Count of Monte Cristo, and The Poisonwood Bible. In all honesty, there are hundreds of others.
